Your friends might pressure you to do this. Your parents not
so much, but I am certain your Pastor (if you have one) has never encouraged
you to act like a pagan. Well let me encourage you to do just that, at least in
this one case.
Matt 2:1-12 (read
it here) recounts the quest of the wise men as they sought out a king they
knew had been born because it had been revealed to them by the stars. We don’t
know much about them, but they likely weren’t God fearing or following. They
certainly weren’t a part of God’s covenant people, and it’s likely that they weren’t
worshipers of the one true God. But, whenever they saw the star, clearly a sign
from Him, they responded.
It’s no small thing that God revealed the birth of King
Jesus to these men, and we shouldn’t overlook that. But, at this time of year,
we also shouldn’t overlook that God has revealed the same thing to us. He came to be with us. God, put on flesh and dwelt among us.
I guess the question is, will you respond like these pagan
men that pursued the Christ once God revealed Him. Will you put your life on
hold, to take up following Him? Will you give up your desire for the world and
set your life aside as the only offering worthy of this King?
I
appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your
bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your
spiritual worship.
